Full Mouth Rehabilitation

A full mouth rehabilitation is a combination of treatments co-ordinated by a prosthodontist when many or all of the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws are lost or damaged.

It is a solution for weakened teeth that need protection to prevent the risk of fracture or further damage after becoming severely worn as a result of long-term acid erosion from harmful foods, beverages or acid reflux, or tooth grinding. It also may be suitable for patients with ongoing complaints of headaches and pain in the jaw and facial muscles who require an adjustment to their bite because they are suffering from what is known in dentistry as malocclusion. The aim is to restore the mouth to full form and function, giving the patient comfort and improving their overall dental health

A combination of calibrated treatments such as crowns, bridges, veneers and dental implants may be applied and other dental specialists from Harley Street Dental and Implant Clinic may be called upon such as periodontists to treat gum problems, oral surgeons, orthodontists to manage tooth positioning, and endodontists to correct tooth pulp and nerve problems.

Full mouth rehabilitations done properly last a long time because underlying problems such as tooth movement and gum infections are dealt with before major work commences. They require supervision by an experienced prosthodontist who understands the work of other dental specialists and how to affect long term improvements in oral health with the minimum intervention.

Harley Street Dental and Implant Clinic is home to dental specialists who have worked together for many years and perform full mouth rehabilitations under one roof, with no need to refer patients elsewhere.

Full mouth reconstructions start with a dental examination in which clinical records such as x-rays and photographs are made of the mouth and models of the teeth are created from impressions. With these records the prosthodontist develops a step-by-step treatment plan to correct all problems in the mouth with a full mouth rehabilitation.

If you have damaged teeth or an imbalanced bite, book a dental examination with a Harley Street Dental and Implant Clinic prosthodontist to discuss whether you are suitable for a full mouth rehabilitation.
